Here is the link to the entire Texas House State Affairs Committee hearing on March 12, 2021 and a guide to the grassroots testimony: https://tlchouse.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=46&clip_id=19601
The grassroots crowd showed up to oppose HB 3 by State Rep (and Calendars Committee Chair) Dustin Burrows. HB 3 is the House Leaderships attempt to do an omnibus response to the COVID pandemic. The problem is that the bill that Burrows introduced acts like it saw no problem with the governor flattening the lives, livelihoods, health, and liberty of millions of Texans over the past year.
The grassroots were there to let them know differently. The hearing was orchestrated to let industry groups sing the praises of the bill. But after hours (and in reality a year) of waiting, the grassroots finally got to speak. And it was a roar.
They put a face to the dry statistics of the devastation that COVID tyranny wrought. And the members of the committee were brought to tears several times.
It was a good day for Texas and the start of a more hopeful future for all Texans.
The testimony on HB 3 starts around 2:20 and goes for 6 hours and 23 minutes after that.
There was lots of invited testimony. Most were industry representatives and governmental officials. But two grassroots groups/individuals were invited to present testimony.
One was Paul Hodson representing his new group Grassroots Gold. His testimony starts around 4:18.50.
The other invited liberty group was the NRA represented by Tara Micha at around 4:28.
David Wylie, a member of SREC SD 12 represented the Republican Party of Texas starting at 5:39.
Tom Glass started speaking at 5:52. Then John O'Shea spoke movingly about his difficulty in supporting his disabled wife in an assisted living center through the COVID tyranny, starting at 5:57.
Matt Long of the Fredericksburg Tea Party started at 6:02.47.
Christin Bentley, the President of Texas Freedom Coalition presented compelling testimony starting at 6:19.
True Texas Project was represented by several people. The first was Marie (?) Gallagher at 6:34. Followed by another True Texas Project representative, Sheena Rodriguez at 6:37.
Long time GOP activist Timothy James "TJ" Scott, hit more on constitutional issues with detailed commentary at 6:43:30.
Diane Velasco quietly and compellingly mixed arguments for liberty with a compelling story of the devastation COVID tyranny caused her family at 7:00.
Long time GOP activist Stacy Leigh Roberts provided compelling, horrifying, personal testimony about how her family was separated from her by COVID protocols when she had a heart attack, starting at around 7:03.30.
Sandy Bittrick brought tears to everyone's eyes as she told of the suicide of her grandson due to the loneliness of the lockdowns at around 7:07.
Bill Kelberlau testified at 7:15, listed the many ways HB 3 is unconstitutional. He said what we have been subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. Ronda McCauley followed up with more arguments about HB 3 is unconstitutional at right after that.
At 7:21, Tim Georgeff provided compelling testimony about the adversity his family faced through the pandemic. He was followed by his wife, Shelley Luther, at 7:25. Shelley was as compelling as ever. Several reps broke down in tears after her testimony.
The wonderful Fran Waters Rhodes had the difficult task of following Shelley Luther. Fran testified for True Texas Project. She talked about the hubris of people thinking that we can control the virus. She said that for the last twelve months we have not had representative government. Instead, we have had tyranny.
Henry Bohnert, of Brazoria County, spoke against HB 3 at around 7:36, pointing out that government employees did not lose their jobs and livelihood during the tyranny. Only private citizens did.
Richard Bohnert of Comfort, TX opposed HB 3 at around 7:38. Pointed out that the lockdowns and mask mandates had no appreciable effect.
He made the common sense case of how the government is supposed to be controlled by the people and the legislature is the voice of the people. He made a compelling case for the heritage liberty of Texas and the necessity of liberty for life.
Dr. Milinda Morris, the GOP SD 13 nominee in Harris County made the case for separation of powers at around 7:48.
The testimony continued on for another 40 minutes of grassroots passion.
