This Long Holiday WeekendPlease, as you get out and around this weekend, put SAFETY FIRST!There will be some repeats in here. I hope that y’all will excuse me for that. Repetition helps keep things at the forefront in our thoughts and actions.If you are headed out to the many beaches on our wonderful Gulf Coast, please keep rip currents in mind. They can be deadly and need not be. Many lose their lives needlessly due to rips each year. Take a quick look when you get to the beach and scope out where the rips are, bearing in mind they can shift. Stay away from the jetties due the rip currents and other obstacles close to them. Obey any requests from the lifeguards. They are there to help ensure a pleasant beach trip. And please, pack out your trash no matter where you spend the weekend.Be mindful that you may encounter snakes just about anywhere here – the beach, parks, lakes, forests. Also watch for other dangers such as gators and other wild animals. They are out there, so please beware.Driving can be especially hazardous on long weekends with folks rushing to make the most of their time off. Be well rested, watch out for the “other guy”, and, please, designate a non-drinking driver if you are going to imbibe. Save your texting and phone use for your rest stops.Above all, have a great holiday weekend. We value our friends and neighbors and do hope that your long weekend is full of fun and excitement.
